For nearly 30 years, I’ve been working on images that do more than you expect. Tattoos, graphic design, optical illusions and zoetrope animations: each project revolves around rhythm, structure and movement.

My foundation lies in craft, built through endless drawing, experimentation and learning by doing.
What began with pencil, compass and ruler in a time without tutorials or digital shortcuts, grew into a practice that merges traditional techniques and modern technology.

Travel played a big role in my development. In Japan, I learned at Horitatsu (Dragon Tattoo Studio) how composition and construction work in large tattoos – knowledge that can be applied to any style.
The Japanese aesthetic, from the patterns in kimonos to the sophisticated decorations in temples, left a lasting impression. Also working in other renowned studios in Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and San Francisco, and at numerous tattoo conventions worldwide, gave me new insights and enriched my view of the profession. Devouring books, soaking up cultures and spending hours in the sketchbook: I use that baggage today to create images that are more than superficial embellishments.

An important chapter in my journey was the nine-year stint as curator of the Cricket Court Museum above my former tattoo studio. Together with a well-heeled team, I organized more than 50 concerts, exhibits and murder mysteries there. That role gave me the space
to further develop my creativity beyond tattooing. It was a place where art, music, history and personal projects came together and broadened my view of visual art.

Whether it is a large geometric tattoo, an optical illusion portrait or a visual concept for a vinyl release, each design receives the same attention to detail and composition. I believe technology can enhance the process, but the foundation remains craftsmanship, experience and a keen eye for form. Under the name The Fisher King, I bring together all my creative exploits.
Today I work out of my private studio in Izenberge, where peace and focus provide the space to bring unique projects to life.
